Exploring NYC’s Neighborhoods: The Financial District

Find out more about one of New York’s most iconic neighborhoods

Known by the locals as FiDi, the Financial District in NYC is one of the most historically rich sections in the city. Aside from the hustle and bustle and parade of suits and ties, the Financial District offers stunning architecture, shopping hubs, scenic views, and many sightseeing spots.

A blend of old & new

Located in Lower Manhattan, the Financial District is bordered by notable landmarks including City Hall, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the East River. It is home to renowned financial institutions such as the New York Stock Exchange, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and the World Trade Center.

The worldwide famous Wall Street is the heart of this district, and its name is used to refer to much more than just a street but the headquarters of America’s financial markets, a symbol of high finance and investment. Back when New York was New Amsterdam in the 17th Century, the Dutch settlers built a wall around what is now known as Wall St. in concern that England would invade their colony, and even though now the wall is long gone, the name stuck.

Due to its history, the old and new coexist here — the modern skyscrapers in this area are contrasted by cobble streets with some of the oldest buildings in the city creating very interesting architecture. An iconic spot is a pedestrian-only block called Stone street filled with restaurants and bars ideal for after-work.

Landmarks and attractions

Within the Financial District, visitors can explore significant landmarks such as the Oculus and the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, which stands where the Twin Towers once stood. Brookfield Place offers a unique experience with its curated dining, cultural offerings, world-class shopping, and modern office spaces.

Many would picture this zone of the concrete jungle as a sad, corporate-only, gray area. However, this neighborhood does not disappoint when it comes to green spaces. Ideally located in between beautiful waterfronts, Fidi offers a large variety of choices to enjoy nature; evening strolls or jogging, appreciating beautiful sunsets, and if the good weather allows so, you can even do kayaking on the pier. The south street seaport is a must-see, especially during the summers when the outdoor programs are filled with many exciting activities.

Convenient and tranquil living

Living in the Financial District ensures excellent access to public transportation, making commuting a breeze. Once the workday is over, residents can enjoy a peaceful and laid-back atmosphere in this safe neighborhood, providing valuable peace of mind.

FiDi is rich with attractions, amenities, and a luxe social scene, it is one of the most renowned neighborhoods in the city, with everything within your reach, this is the ideal place to live while being in New York City.
